I'm considering a mod to delete old products, i.e. products on the store but not in the upload, and empty categories during an upload.

I'm undecided whether to actually delete the product or just mark it disabled (i think i can do that). This came to light when a customer noticed that his order showed something like "Product deleted from database". I assume that if you delete a product that product no long shows up on any orders. (not very nice behavior). Further I am assuming that if you mark it as disabled, it will still show up on all orders.

Anyone have any insights into this matter?

Maybe I need to ask a more general question.

When you don't want to sell a particular product any more do you delete it or do you mark it hidden or disabled?

If you delete it then all past orders for that item will show the item as "deleted from database" or similar.
