Default Newbie - Smarty Error

I'm just starting to work with Smarty at this company that just hired me as their e-commerce manager. I have tons of Miva experience, just not much xcart experience. I am starting to work with the templates, and I tried to change our copyright tpl, and now there's an error on the page that im trying to figure out what caused it and how to fix it. This is the error.

Warning: Smarty error: problem writing '../templates_c/%%-57/%%-573679010/copyright.tpl.php.' in /home/zeuspc/public_html/xcart/Smarty-2.3.0/Smarty.class.php on line 589

All I changed in the tpl file I was working with was I added a url link to a image. What do I need to do to fix this?

I don't have shell access to my web server, all I have is cpanel, and ftp access to the server. If I go in via ftp, I can see all the directories under templates_c/%%-. If I go in under cpanel I can not see anything past that, it just returns a internal error "Internal Error, can't find that folder".

The properties of template_c is 777

Run a cleanup.php

immediately delete and then recreate templates_c directory

set permissions to templates_c to 777

So I can delete the directory, and just recreate it with out any bad things happening? I'm sorry I am asking all these newb questions, but I am very new to the smarty engine, so I don't really know much about it.

From what I am gasping from reading on here, the template_c is kinda of a dynamic folder that smarter renders in. Is that correct?

I ran cleanup also, and this is what I got. "The compiled templates cache ("templates_c" directory) has been cleaned up. "

Nothing bad is going to happen

Run Cleanup.php again

Immediately DELETE template_c directory

Recreate templates_c and set to 777

That took care of it, I wonder why that happened though. I greatly appriciate your help =). So I guess I am right to some extent about that directory being a dynamically rendered directory. I need to master php & smarter sooon....

You can learn and learn but you still won't know why that happens... It just does for some unknown reason
