If an item is on sale, I'd like to overlay a "Sale" image on top of the thumbnail (as if it was a sticker on a package). How can I do this? I want this image to appear on the thumbnails on the home page, category pages, and on the full size image on the product description page.

I have been searching for a solution like that for some time. Ideally I would like to link an image displaying based on an extra field value so it can be managed relatively easily. Did you ever come up with a viable option?

XCart's "On Sale" module does this. Screen shot attached.

The icon's overlay is enabled by a check box on the product management page.
