Default Automatic Thumbnail Generation

I was wondering if anyone has seen a mod that uses the detailed image to generate the thumbnail images using phpThumb, ImageMagik or anything like that? So all you have to upload is the detailed image and the thumbnail is generated automatically. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have seen something like that on another program, but do not know how they did it.

What I do is simply use IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/ and easily and quickly batch create the thumbnail images. I did over 3,000 images yesterday in about 10-15 minutes. Most of the time was spent deciding which images I was going to use.

IrfanView also gives you a nice variety of options on what you can do with the images as you create them.

Similar topic here: http://forum.x-cart.com/viewtopic.php?t=7752.

A client asked for this for his shop, so hopefully he will pay for us to make it work, and then it can be released as a mod. I don't know if he will go with the price, as it looks like some serious time to get it work (according to our programmers.)

I think this is quite easy to do with the GD library but the quality is poor and also legal issues exist to do with the manipulation of gifs so any script would have to be licenced for use with gifs. Of course someone could make a script which just didn't use gifs.

I'm kind of upset on this one... I was hoping to see at least GD Library used in this software. It really makes it a pain in the butt to resize all of the images for products being added all the time!! At lease an option would be nice or an addon for this to be integrated.

Plus just look at the upside in making this an option:
1) another great benefit to buy the software
2) maybe even charge a little extra
3) saves time & SAVES TIME
4) everyone is happy

Just my $0.02

If anyone wants to take the time to do this mod would be great, I would if I had the time
