Default Debugging

Hi,

I want to totally design a new skin (using one of the existing skins to make changes with). Has anyone used an ide for the php/smarty code and an easy way of working out which template files need to be changed.

I have downloaded netbeans and it seems pretty good. I want to be able to use debug facility with netbeans. It makes use of xdebug. Anyone have any experience with this.

Any advice on debugging smarty templates is helpful really.

Thanks,

I've used Netbeans for years (with PHP and Smarty) and I'm very happy with it. I've never debugged TPLs with it but I have lots of PHP.

Hi Richard,

How did you get the x-debug to work.. I can't debug as it says its not been configured on the remote server.. I don't see an option in the cPanel

I am using a laptop with Netbeans on it to connect to a remote server (x-cart hosted on handsonwebshoting)

Thanks..

ah.. okay mate.. thanks.. if i wanted to do the debugging on my local machine.. i guess i would need to purchase a license for my local machine or is there a free development license?

How do you do your development? i've gone for the remote project in netbeans as it seemed the easiest and quickest..

I do development on my local machine. I don't think you need a license for a development box.

Thanks.. I'm pretty new to the whole world of development with PHP.. I've done development with Java in the past.

I guess I need to setup a mysql database on my laptop and setup a server etc

Also could you give me any help with setting a session variable or smarty template and accessing it from another or php page..

I have 3 pages that I wish to be like my homepage but depending on what the user selects they are always presented with data specific to that selection..

Try looking on the netbeans web site. Start here: http://netbeans.org/projects/php/
