Hi all,

I'm working on a new site with 4.4.1 and I am having one heck of an issue I can't seem to figure out. The problem seems to be with the way categories and subcategories are handled.

t two very odd things are happening

First, the breadcrumbs show parent categories that don't make sense. In the database, the parentid is correct, but as you can see it lists every category that was created prior to the category that is being viewed.

Second, it seems that no matter what category I am looking at products from ALL categories are shown.

One thing of note, it seems to me, is that the list of subcategories and the subcategories menu to the left display the correct subcategories if one is viewing a "top level" category (A category for which the parent is 0).

Also, If working in the admin section of the site if one looks at the categories list (showing categories for which the parent is 0) the "subcategories" link shows up as "-0.5"

Further, if one clicks on the subcategories link, one sees that all categories are once again displayed, even if they have a different parent or no parent at all

Does anyone have a clue as to where to start troubleshooting this? I have eliminated all modification to *.php files I have made. I have even copied the DB tables to another database and done a fresh install of 4.4.1 pointing at it.

This issues has really thrown me for a loop!

That "Rebuild category indexes" button under tools sure is handy.

I hope someone else find this post useful.
