I'm trying to find a workaround to the limitation that max image width gives you in terms of displaying a larger detailed product image in the pop-up, from the size of image that displays on the product details page.

So far I have managed to get rid of the detailed images thumbs from the product details page (easy enough through admin appearance settings), then set a reduced size of the image that displays on the product details page (again this is easy enough - just edit product.tpl and take out the max image variable for width and set your own).

All I need now is a way of linking to the detailed images popup from a text link or something, which points to the same URL as the thumbnails... I've tried to work it out from the templates but don't seem to be able to find the correct variable to link to.

Anyone got any ideas or found another workaround?

I'm trying to track this down as well. I'm using the built in .js pop-up/lightbox, but there are no clues how to modify the results... It's showing the detailed image in a lightbox but the image is quite a bit smaller than I want it to be...
