How difficult (or easy..) would this category layout be?

Hi everyone,

Until now I haven't seen an X-Cart site with the main categories displayed horizontally at the top and the corresponding subcategories displayed vertically on the left.

For an example take a look at: www.bol.com (The best selling store in the Netherlands)

Moreover, the layout changes when switching to each category to fit the product groups more. This would be great as well but optional (for me). Now I really would like to know if this category layout can be done or/and if there's an X-Cart guru out there who may be able to help out.

Yeah, I have seen this mod already through one of the other threads and might be useful when I can change the category layout as described but... I don't think it's possible within X-Cart like bol.com does. Maybe the Qualiteam is able to custome code it for me... or is there a guru somewhere outside who can do this?

This mod (if I'm correct) only changes the skin. Great. But what I am looking for is a mod that will display all subcategories on the left side menu when a top level category(which are displayed horizontally beneath the header) is being clicked.

Yep, you could do that with {if} statements which may require a bit of customization. There are some mods in the Custom Mods forum for displaying sub-categories...have a read through some of those and you'll get the idea.

Thanks Padraic, I'll definately have a look at it. But first I need to dig into smarty a bit more.... so frustrating if you KNOW what you want but don't KNOW how to do it!
