Hi all,
I'm a terrible newbie: how can I reduce or delete gaps in the image in the green zones?

I'm going crazy without any results!

A secondary question is this: how can I insert a simple banner in that spaces and in other site zone (example: under categories, or under help box).

Open up your site in webmaster mode so you can see which templates are which. Then open those templates and look for code that would cause spacing. For example, look at customer/main/welcome.tpl and remove the break between the welcome text and the featured products call.
