I edited home.tpl and that works fine for main page and product pages but when I click on checkout link I am back to square one. None of my editing is used anymore. Which template other than home.tpl I have to edit to once again remove X-Cart header, footer etc. and put in my own. I don't want to edit include files in the root folder since I want to keep the admin side as it is by default.

Moving this to its own thread. In the 4.1 branch, there is a checkout module that controls the checkout process. You can find those files in the modules/Fast_Lane_Checkout folder.

Thanks. I will strip out everything I don't want from customer/home.tpl and modules/Fast_Lane_Checkout/home.tpl and then implement my own design and throw my own includes in both of those. That should keep my admin side intact and customer pages and checkout skinned I think.
