Default Which is faster: loading IMG from DB or from Folder

Hello,

My site is pretty heavy on images, and I'm wondering if pages load faster from the database or from the folder.

Also, how do I set X-cart to load images from the folder? - I saw some function pertaining to this in the Admin panel, but I didn't know how to use it.

Use Images in File. It will make lot of difference to load site.

Hey raxitpatel thanks for the reply. Can you give me some quick steps or point me to some threads where I can find out how I can make xcart get images from file instead of db.

Hey balinor, thanks for the thread. I looked it over and the instructions were very clear, however I have problem:

When I switch from DB to FS I notice that the thumbnail images get renamed: t_######.jpg -- which means that a "t_" prefix is added. This is a problem because currently all my pictures are named ######.jpg so when the script runs I get all "FAILURES" because the program can't find the image.

I think I would have to go manually rename about 1300 images just to add the "t_" prefix for this to work, surely there has to be a way around this. Do you know it?

I would have posted this in the thread you sent me but it wouldn't let me, so hopefully you can help me out here. --Thanks

just download your ###### images, grab a program from www.download.com that batch renames files, add the t_ and you are done,

should take 5 - 10 mins from download to upload of renamed files.

now, from here on out, all new ones will have t_

If you are using Windows, just use the Command line option:

ren /?
Renames a file or files.

RENAME [drive:][path]filename1 filename2.
REN [drive:][path]filename1 filename2.

this command also allows for Batch renaming, or if you feel like it, you could write a Batch Script to do this.

Hope thats of use to you.

Hey thanks for the replies jackel and Audiolines,

Had I known there was such a way to batch edit file names, I would've saved myself a ton of time when I was tinkering with another project of mine. I'm glad I found this out now though, I still haven't got to chance to change this feature on my xcart yet.

Thanks guys
