problem with changing site colors

I shrunk my site to a width of 700. I want the background around my site to be boardered gray and the inside to be all white. Everytime I chage the background property for my body it colors the inside of my site and header the same color. I want the header and inside to be white, I dont' know how to do that, can someone please help me out?

Change the color of the 'body' class in skin1.css to the darker color. Then set the main table color in home.tpl to white.

I've searched and searched for the answer to this...

I can't find a call for the main table color
Is this something I need to add? If so is it <bg background color="#FFFFFF"> ?

Try setting the table color in rectangle_top.tpl.
