Removing Pull Down States?
One of the flaws we've found so far with X-Cart is that there seems to be counties/states missing for a lot of countries. My question is, would it be possible to eliminated the pulldown box for all countries EXCEPT the United States, that way foreign country customers can fill in the info themselves?

Re: Removing Pull Down States?
This not possible? :?

Re: Removing Pull Down States?
Sure, just remove all the states for the countries except the US under 'states'.

Thanks for the help! I tried that with Australia and now when you select the country on the address form it says: The selected country doesn't require 'state' field I was hoping to replace that completely, except for the United States, with a blank box for people to type in their state name because it would appear the x-cart states are widely inaccurate. :? |
Re: Removing Pull Down States?
You need to make sure the 'Has States' box is checked for the country you want to show the box for under 'Countries'

Re: Removing Pull Down States?
Thanks a bunch! Do you get paid by x-cart Balinor, cause if not you should :)
Will international customers understand that by state we mean their province, county or whatever their subdivision of their countries are? |
Re: Removing Pull Down States?
I wish!
I usually change 'State' to 'State/Province'. |
Re: Removing Pull Down States?
Is "State" name necessary for many countries? I found that listing them for the US, Canada and Australia seems to be sufficient - other countries don't seem to need/use the "State/Provence" address field - To the best of my knowledge, I haven't lost any international orders because of the lack of it -
I initally got customer feedback that it was redundant/not necessary for most European countries... so in order to simplify the customer process I only employ it for the above three countries where is seems to be important - is this a good approach? Is there a "best Practice regarding it's use? Regarding balinor getting paid by e-cart: You deserve it - mebbe we should take up a collection! I'd gratefully chip in. |

Where would one go to change that? I'm still a little confused on all the little things like that. Thanks again for all your help! |
Re: Removing Pull Down States?
That's a language variable. Just look for 'state' in your languages area and change it to State/Province

Good info... Has anyone got a "Best Practice" ? I too ship worldwide. There are 6 pages of countries, do I have to check "has states" to every one of them? I don't know which ones do/don't have states. |

Perhaps not a "best Practice" but it seems to be a "good enough" one - I have yet to have any significant difficulties shipping internationally (from the US) with States/Provinces* enabled only for the US, Canada and Australia. I check/validate the majority of my international shipment addresses using Address Doctor (http://www.addressdoctor.com/lookup/default.aspx?lang=en) and/or a variety of Country-specific Postal service postcode validators: Australia - http://www1.auspost.com.au/postcodes/ Canada - http://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pcl/bin/advanced-e.asp Great Britain - http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm Germany - http://www.deutschepost.de (browsr speciic - check it out in FF 2.0) Switzerland - http://www.swisspost.ch/en/index.htm are my top five, but I've shipped to a majority of European countries (and some Asian ones as well) without a "state" *Due to numerous Canadian customers, I change my language variable to that as well. Hope that helps! |
Re: Removing Pull Down States?
Looking though my dazzle of past international orders, I have found that Spain, and Japan also have city & states.
I just went though all the countries and added "has states" and changed my language to "State/Province" and marked it as a "not required" field for those that dont have "State/Province" |
Re: Removing Pull Down States?
systems- where are you remivng the "requred" field? I know I saw that hec box somewhere but cannot find it now that I am looking for it.
More I think about it- your system seems best. Customers would know the local protocol on shipping and if their state/province is needed to get to them. Leaving this blank and not required gives all the option. |
Re: Removing Pull Down States?
My only concern here is Google Checkout. I had terrible problems with Google Checkout constantly saying that I didn't ship to a customers address. I eventually resolved it by making sure all the States were set in the Destination Zones screen.
Now that I've deleted all the states, I'm nervous of what Google Checkout will do! It seems to be working atm, but I remain to be convinced. |
