I would like to list twenty random products on every page. Can this be done with flexy or must it be done in my custom module?

While I am a newb, as far as X-cart 5 and in general, you can get the products on the bottom of the page by using product advisor. https://market.x-cart.com/addons/product-advisor.html. That will be the easy way that I know. God bless you!

It requires a custom module. You can review the example in Add to Cart popup module. This extension can show random products in the add to cart popup.

By the way, that is the business logic to show random products on the home page? I would recommend you to show bestsellers or even make and A/B test to understand what works better
