Is it possible to have a link to add a service fee for placing downloadable products to a CD? Is there a module available? or would custom programing be required?

At the moment a product can be either shippable, or not. I.e. a single product cannot have one variant that is downloadable, and another one that is shippable. So, if you want the shipping address section to appear when the CD option is chosen, custom programing will be required.

A solution that doesn't require custom programming is having two separate products: one for the downloadable version, and another one for the version distributed on CD.

CDs still in use? You can probably get around this by shipping to billing address. You can probably create option or variant for the product to include CD and charge more for it.

The product would not need to be marked "requires shipping" because it is a service fee that would use the billing address. I just need a link to show in the cart when an item or items in the downloadable category are in the cart that adds the service fee to the order. The CD creation and shipping would have to be done manually. If this requires custom programming can you give an estimate of cost?

Have you tried to use options with price modifiers or variants having their own prices?
Both are created from product attributes.
