Subcategory descriptions
I'm trying to get the category description to show on the subcategory list (subcategories_list.tpl or subcategories_t.tpl). I found a thread for older versions of x-cart at http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=43781&highlight=subcategory+descr iption but include/func/func.category.php is completely different in 4.4 and I can't figure out what to do.

Stupid me. The variable was already available without any edits to PHP files. I just used {$subcategory.description|escape} where I wanted the description in the template.
