Hello!

Is it possible to give the customer the option to select the number of items that show on the thumbnails pages? Such as the choice of showing 12, 24 or 48 products/items per page? Also, is it possible to give the customer the option to change the viewable size of the thumbnail?

such as putting a drop-down list on the page so the CUSTOMER can change the number of products showing on a page at will (same for the thumbnail size).

Products per page dropdown exists in 4.4.x

How is that function activated?

I don't think you have to do anything special. Unless you modified navigation.tpl file and commented it out
