Hi, I hope someone can help

During the checkout process I would like to ask the customer questions - such as "Where you found us from" etc....

I have managed to create the questions in the customer profiles - and said to display in checkout - but they can only be answered if the customer clicks on the "Personal Details" section dring checkout - and fastlane checkout skips this section - so the customer sees the questions but cannot answer them without clicking on the Personal Details section.....

I would like the questions displayed and the customer to be able to answer them at the final stage of the checkout process "Place Order" page....

Is this possible ?

doesnt anyone know how to ask extra questions during checkout ? I would have thought this would be a common thing during checkouts ...

Do you really want repeat customers to be asked the same question every time they shop with you? By having it in the "Personal Details" section only new customers see the question.

We did this some time ago and found that the majority of people didn't answer, and those that did were so vague that the answer wasn't relevant so we discontinued it.

I will change the questions for example:

I would like to do a competition now and again where the customer is asked a simple question.

Or

Enter our monthly prize draw

or

If a product isnt available can we substitute it with similar or better etc....

So questions that are only really relevant for the current order.

I think what I said earlier about "Where did you find us" was maybe a poor example sorry.

It should just be a simple matter of finding where the "extra fields" are being presented to the customer (which .tpl) and moving them to later in the checkout process (another .tpl). Webmaster mode should help you here, or if you are using Fastlane checkout they are numbered for each step in skin1/modules/Fast_Lane_Checkout.

Thanks, I do use fast lane checkout.... but im not 100% sure what you mean by numbered for each step.... ?

If you look in skin1/modules/Fast_Lane_Checkout/ you will see...
checkout_0_enter.tpl
checkout_1_profile.tpl
checkout_2_method.tpl
checkout_3_place.tpl
and
customer_details_html.tpl

Look in each of them for where "extra_fields" are called. Copy the code and paste into the .tpl where you want it to be, then comment out the first code using {* and *} surrounding the "extra_fields" code.
