Hello,

Monday my boss handed me a layout. he also informed me that he purchased xcart and that he wanted me to skin X-Cart with the design he handed me. I didn't know what Smarty was till i saw it in X-Cart.

Now, I've sliced my layout, got everything to work like i want it... now i need to integrate "smarty".... But i've not got a clue where to start???

Can someone tell me the next steps i need to undertake... What files will i have to open first, do i replace any css? ....

Hoping for a swift response.

oh yes, I've read the manual, used webmaster mode and read the guide here on the forums, so i didn't just post this.

Welcome to the X-Cart forums! Please start by reading the forum guidelines (http://forum.x-cart.com/viewtopic.php?t=6489), and posting your X-Cart version in your signature (click the User CP link at the top of the forum). You can find your version by clicking on the 'Summary' link in your admin area.

As for where to start...well...you need to just dive in to the templates, figure out what is what, and start adding your design to the templates piece by piece. The template guide (which you have probably read) will be very helpful, but there really is no magic bullet to learning the ropes of Smarty or the template structure. Back up your files every time you make a change, or you run the risk of losing hours of work if you botch something up.

thatnx for the advice, but allright i've got two simple questions then.... During the install i opted for sleek and simple layout but thinking about it i think i'll be better off with doing a 2 column layout... but i can't find where toswith back to a two column...

Secondly, i've noticed that Xcart using tables for it's layout, I'm praying div's will work as well... i supposed so.... right?

Divs will work, but it takes about 10 hours to strip out all the tables, and that is if you are familiar with the template structure. You may want to install one of the CSS skins available from xcartmods.co.uk or bcsengineering.com

Sorry my client wants the design she provided, rounded corners and all....

And... the signature being edited.

No, what I mean is, use the CSS skin as a base. There really isn't any style to those skins, they are just a starting point.

yesterday i started by pasting home.tpl into my (div) layout.... and thing's (although looking unstyled) are starting to function.... I've got 4/5 more days to adapt it, and at this "rate" it's going pretty smooth.

it took me a week, but I did figure it out.... at the end of the road... it is quite doable.
