Display main categories names in footer & link it to their category page

Default Display main categories names in footer & link it to their category page
Q.
I have Main categories on my store titled:

Books
Entertainment
Apparel
Games
Other

In my footer (ie. bottom.tpl) I would like to display these categories but also include an <a href>Books</a>.. link to the category page. Can someone help me out.

just make a copy of the categories template but remove the line breaks and replace it with spaces or padding and include it in the footer
