hi guys,

you may have noticed that the featured products can only be selected from the admin panel. the problem is that you have to manually select the items from admin panel and it doesnt appear if the products goes out of stock or you dont assign any product to featured products section.

Now the questions i have in mind are:

1: The selection tool of admin panel: how can change it sql query so it would show only those cats and products in stock to select item for featured products? it is showing all items and you dont know unless the product is in or out of stock until you view on the website. A slight change in query such as WHERE category=>1 product AND quantity =>1, could sort this problem out but HOW?

2: lets say we want to add another function in such as if we dont assign an item for featured products in keyboards category then it should dynamically show 6 items itself from keyboards category. i can understand that would be different on front page which we can assign on daily basis but when it comes to 100 categories and 6x100=600 items to assign for the store, well i dont call it feasable. any solution from you guys so featured products are automatically assign 6 items from featured category if we dont assign any product from admin panel. it would save a lot of time and pages would feel packed with products.

There are some nice random product modules in the Custom Mods forum, although I'm not sure if any of them work for 4.1. As for adding featured products, just use 'disable products which are out of stock' and they won't show as choices.

thatz rite. i can disable products from admin and it wouldnt show up on website.. but you may have noticed the popup selection box for featured products in admin doesnt hide products out stock.. i assume it has to be done from some query to add such as select *...... WHERE avail=>1. that would simply show products in stock with more than or equal to 1 quantity..

hope you understand.. any idea?
