Default Background image instead of color

Okay, I'm redesigning my html pages and using a background gif image. I would like my shopping cart pages to mirror the new look.

I need help.

1) can we use a background image instead of background color with xcart?

I tried editing the css template background color (the one currently used) to use the image, but the template didn't seem to recognize it and the page went mostly white.

2) is using a background image in gif format a problem for shopping carts? is it not recommended? or is it normal and used often?

I'm currently using a plain blue color. Since the cart isn't a fancy design, the plain colors look boring (just blocks of color). The new image has a slight paper look design and looks great with the rest of my site content pages. So, it will look great, but I'm not sure if it's do-able or simply not recommended.

Thanks for your help!

Yep, you'll need to use CSS. Have a look at the button class in skin1.css to see how to specify background images using css.

Thanks. I will do that.
Will that automatically work with my SSL pages? I have my own SSL. How will that effect it, if at all? Anything special there?

I was wondering if using a background gif is normal or not on a dynamic shopping cart page. I guess I am concerned that it may slow the site or cause a problem somewhere along the way.

I'm using CSS for the regular pages... it's supposed to load the pages faster then using plain html formating from my understanding... new to this... so I guess it will load fast in xcart as well??? since it's in the CSS?

Ah! this webmaster stuff... always changing... always having to learn new stuff (as I look over all my html books) I really don't know how you guys keep up! or is it that I'm so far behind....

Grab yourself a CSS book, it will help immensely. A .gif background will work fine, and won't slow the site as long as the image isn't large. Doesn't matter if a site is plain html, dynamic or secure, it still works the same
