Default Layout Question

I think our store looks pretty good.
It can been seen at www.renewaderm.com if you click on the products button it will take you to the area I am interested in.

I think the direct link is http://www.renewaderm.com/xcart/home.php?cat=248 maybe you don't need the cat=248 not sure.

Anyway we are about to go live and someone suggested adding a button continue shopping after they add something to the cart. Does anyone else think this is necessary?

Absolutely. I would highly recommend a "Continue shopping" button. It's a psychological thing. If you go to buy a car they'll ask you "What kind of monthly payment are you prepared for?" You say "$200." They'll say "Up to.... ?" and chances that with 2 words they'll get you to spend an extra $50 / month on a car payment. The same holds true for your store. When they add an item to the cart, ask them if they want to continue shopping.

You can make that button go to a special offers page, or related products, or even just back to your home page. Upselling is really where you increase your margins and push up your average order.

You can also try to add a small mod that gives free shipping over $75 and then tell them "If you spend $30 more, you get free shipping."

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Hi,

If you are about to go live, have you considered putting the DSEFU mod on? Is really good for new shops to get you up the Search Engines and saves you having to do the html catalog each time:
http://www.safetynetweb.com/X-Cart-Mods-c-1.html

Also, for better SEO, you should consider moving the site from the subfolder /xcart to the root. Easier for search engine spiders for a start.

Cosmetically (hmm maybe need another word here!), the one thing I would do is centre the page - looks like you designed for 800 resolution, this would then look better in higher resolutions.

Hope that helps as well.
