Default SEO Question

I have a couple of questions regarding the "Available for sale, but hidden"

1. Will these pages still get indexed by Google?

2. Am I correct to assume the items are hidden from the navigation?

The reason I ask, from a navigation standpoint, we have too many SKU to put on the nav bar, but we want people to find the individual pages through long tail search.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

1. yes!
2. yes!

Your plan will work if long-tail is all that you need.
You may also consider making STATIC pages that are "fake" category pages -- and stuff these pages with the hidden links. Internal linkage may enhance SEO and also make for a better customer experience.

Note: hidden items will not appear in x-cart cloud search (if you are using this). Not sure about normal x-cart search. But my hidden items are 1st position in google (if exact long tail is queried).

Hope this helps.

Yes it does.

Maybe you can answer this question.

In the SEO sticky, it is dated 2006. How do the HTML catalogs work now for SEO now that SEO friendly links are part of 4.5.5?

1. Is there a setting to ensure the HTML catalog is what is indexed only?

2. Are the hidden, but sale links part of the HTML catalog?

Paul,
I have no idea!
I have never used the html catalog since I use CDSEO (websiteCM)
Anyone else know the answer here?

PS -- the BCSE Speed Booster is basically an html catalog on steroids. You may want to look at that as well.

To help the search engine with those links, you could also add them to your xml sitemap, which you submit to the search engines. You can also create an html site map which contains them, and place a link to that in your footer.

Just wanted to chime in that our CDSEO module with XML sitemap generator has an option to choose whether or not to include or exclude hidden products in the XML sitemap.

Default Re: SEO Question

I have another SEO Question for X-Cart.

This option in Categories:

Use the META data and title tag of this category for all the subcategories and products contained in this category:

(Checkbox)
Note: The META data and title tag of this category will be used only for the subcategories and products, which do not have their own values of the corresponding fields.

Should this be on? Or should it be off?

Seems I would want the products underneath to have their own meta data.

This option shouldn't even exist for SEO. They should all be unique.
