OK, I read again this post: http://www.x-cart.com/magento-vs-x-cart.html

What about installing an extension using a Marketplace? Especially when you don't touch the core? Magento allows this and I think is very powerful feature. You can uninstall immediately what you don't need with a click. There are modules for X-Cart which need tenth steps to achieve, and sometimes is not a guarantee you can really do it.

I am not complaining X-Cart. I would like to see some things improved around here. Unfortunately we won't see such of behavior like installing/uninstalling extension without worry something bad could happen. Again Attributes and CMS Page/Blocks are great to have in X-Cart (even in Next).

As for me both shopping carts have pros and cons. You just need to decide which features are more important for you.

X-Cart
● Customizable (PHP and WYSIWYG)
● Fits any type of business
● Security, shipment, payment
● CMS capabilities
● Almost no bugs, new editions are stable

Magento
● Flexible and customizable
● Fully loaded with features(product management, inventory, marketing, SEO, etc)
● Multiple storefronts, languages, currencies, taxes
● Numerous payment and shipment options
● Big community, huge number of extensions

I also found a good comparison of those shopping carts here

I think it can help to understand differences between X-Cart and Magento.
