Both magento and xcart have large 3rd party supplier base with lots of extensions. Xcart has a support desk which will help and fix bugs which Magento has not. Magento has layered navigation and true multi store operation from one instance which xcart has not. Magento is resource hungry (although not as hungry as the review says) and xcart can certainly run bigger sites much easier than Magento. Both have their place in the market.

Hi Ene,

The post by calvin 123 is lame and definitely spammy! That person never read the thread other than the topic.

Can someone delete that post?

It would be better for this community.

Sincerely,
Mike

What are the pros and cons of using Magento vs. X-cart?
Thanks,

Magento is mostly for big scale stores, and hight tecnical knolage skils. Offer lots opportunities, services, extensions, templates...
Talking about X-Cart, you get simple and user-friendly interface to manage your products inventory, orders and clients database. For, instance you can add unlimited number of items and categories, modify multiple products simultaneously, create related goods and cross selling, etc. The platform is SEO friendly, Magento as well (meta-tags and search friendly URLs) and offers you a wide selection of marketing tools (discount coupon codes, gift certificates integration with Google Analytics). X-Cart integrates with many payment gateways including PayPal, Sage Pay, Blue Pay, Google Checkout etc. Shipping carriers like FedEx, DHL and UPS and many other are available. And all this you will get out-of-the-box.
If you are hesitating about an X-Cart, read this article to learn more about the benefits and the downsides of the solution http://www.shopping-cart-migration.com/useful-articles/50-x-cart/4907-what-you-need-to-know-about-x-cart
