Category position - not auto increasing

Category position - not auto increasing

I've stumbled across a small issue and a quick search of the forums has revealed no results.

Whenever I go to add a category or sub category to the website it keeps a static default position of 30. It used to auto increment based on the last number.

Any suggestion to why this would be?
