Ok, I'm tired of banging my head against the wall...

How would I extend the height of the center area so that it reaches the bottom of the page on pages where there is little content? For instance, when you click on an empty cart, it only uses about 10% of the screen height (depending what you have in your left, and/or right bar). I want to fill the rest of the page with the background color of the center area (only).

This could be very easy, but I would need to see what you are talking about to help. If you know the minimum height you would like the specific CSS block, then on the CSS file just add:

.whatever {
  min-height: 600px
}

However, you might need to learn about the faux-column CSS technique, or you might simply need a <div class="clearing">&nbsp;</div> above or below the closing </div> of the element you are trying to stretch.

I wish it was easy.

I'm working with version 4.4.2 and have tried what you suggest... without success. What I finally ended up doing was putting an image of the color I wanted and the width I needed in the left-bar and changing the body background to the same color as the content. I know, kind of a roundabout way to get what I needed, but it works.
