i have purchased the 'clothing' template from xcart (seen here: http://www.x-cart.com/extensions/xcart-templates/clothing.html) which i am setting up here: http://walterswholesale.fgd-sites.co.uk/

i am used to using xcart v4 but totally new to v5, i am trying to remove the rotating banner from the homepage, just above the featured products but can't work out how to edit the templates to do this, can someone point me in the right direction please, or even better a very simple step by step guide on what to do

You should not be modifying templates like this in XC5. If you do next time you upgrade cart all goes back - your changes will be overwritten by the upgrade.
Instead find the module that puts this slider there and delete the images or turn off the module if not in use.

it comes with the template that the client selected, but the client wants it turning off. There is not an option to turn of the module in the admin area so i need to alter the template to do it.

You may not edit files like this and should create a module that implements the changes.

You are likely should find the widget class that displays the banner, "decorate" (from your module) the isVisible() method of this class and make it return false.
