Product Sort in Version 4.0.0

I'm looking to edit the Sort by: function on the category pages in X-Cart 4.0.0. I'd like to remove the SKU and Default sort, and add my own that correspond to custom fields I have added (i.e. for a jewelry store have it sort by stone and metal). Anyone have an idea of where I can start? I found the template that controls this function, but it doesn't look cut and dry like I had hoped. Thanks in advance!

I looked at the search_sort_by.tpl file. I'm looking into adding a couple of "sorts" myself.

What file calls this file? Is it in the products_t.tpl?

I know it is called by /customer/main/search_result.tpl

I mean how does the sort option appear on the product listings page? Where is it called include file=search_sort_by.tpl I looked in the products_t.tpl page and its not there.

Maybe something helpful... search_sort_by.tpl is also called from customer/main/subcategories.tpl. Eliminating that particular if statement from subcategories.tpl , has also eliminated the sort function from my products/category page.

I'm not exactly sure why, but the subcategories.tpl is the only other file I've run across that calls the search_sort_by. It's even more anomalous considering that I'm not using any subcategories.

subcategories.tpl also calls products.tpl within it

notice you can have products listed with subcategories listed above
