Question configuring the left side bar

I'f like to change what's in the left side bar - and the order of the things in the left side bar

(we're using the responsive theme that came with XC 4.6..)

I know I can go into the tpl files and comment out stuff we don't want there - but that isn't something the client can do herself.

Isn't there any admin options for turning on/off what goes on the left side bar

Here

http://www.i-fiberoptics.com/xcart/

we don't want the affiliates there ... but we do want some other stuff there such as new products or news ... specials etc.

Thanks

Hi,

Just switch off the XAffiliate Module in Modules settings - that will remove the affiliates in the left side bar.

Kind regards

I still want to have the affiliate module - but I don't want the link where it is on the left side bar - they want it maybe in the footer or less obvious place - or maybe a static page that links to it.

Would like to rearrange whole thing - w/o getting into the code.

thanks

Well you can't. You need to get into the templates and change things there. There are some 3rd party skins which have something similar and while it works you will still have to manually edit templates if you want to move a widget from left bar to footer for example or right bar, etc.

I see this in the code
{if $active_modules.Manufacturers ne "" and $config.Manufacturers.manufacturers_menu eq "Y"}
{include file="modules/Manufacturers/menu_manufacturers.tpl"}

so this must be set to Y somewhere ? If I could just set it to N ... then all would work.

My categories are not showing in the left side bar ...

I see this

{include file="customer/categories.tpl"}

in the file

and they appear on the inner pages but not on the home page

I do have xroot categories - but client wants them both ways - because of all the subcats and drill downs.

Can I do this ? Or does xroot-categories mean I can do it the usual way

thanks

Donna, I believe this is the default behavior for X-Root categories. And it is usually not the desirable behavior. I would take a look through the templates and PHP code, I am sure it can be customized to sow the cats on the home page because I have done it before, but unfortunately I can;t remember how or when I did it, and I don't have a copy of the module's files easily accessible wither.
