Default Frontpage Slideshow

Hi Guys,

Not sure how many of you are familiar with the FrontPage slideshow? I have bought this mod and have edited it to my needs. Please let me know how I can improve it.

Your feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Thanks Gizmo,

But there is something about Frontpage slideshow that makes it one of a kind!

Frontpage Slideshow is Search Engine Friendly! So all your text and headings etc. will be picked up by search engines and this will also improve your rankings as well. The content of the slides is laid out as html code and this can not be beaten by any flash or java banner rotators.

Do you agree with me on this one or do you know something I don't?

Frontpage slideshow is definitely the way to go for dynamic content on the home page - or any other page for that matter. Skip flash, it isn't worth the hassle and won't give you nearly the benefit as this script does. Have quite a number of clients using it very successfully.

Must say, it is a good link to keep as a bookmark. Seems they have loads of interesting things that can come in handy. Thanks

Just FYI the Frontpage Slideshow uses Javascript. But you are right it does beat Flash and it is programmed in Javascript and designed to degrade well so that it is SEO friendly and usable even if JS is disabled.

The only problem is that some people for their rotating banners and such prefer to just use images, maybe because of the design element, maybe because they can't maintain HTML very well, etc.

If you are just going to use pure images by themselves you might as well use a Flash image loader because you can make your page snappier. If you are going to use real content, real text, etc then frontpage slide show or some form of JS rotation is definitely the way to go.

Excellent Implementation Dan.roh. I would make one suggestion. When the page is first loaded the largest text in your box is:
"About Us"

And then directly below that, much smaller:
"Find it cheaper elsewhere...and we will match the price!"

As a suggestion, I don't see how large text saying "About Us" would prompt a visitor to want to stay on your site? There is nothing in that statement to attract the customer to stay, give them a reason to continue looking around on your site. If your USP is to match prices then try making that the larger text, make it easier to see:
"We'll match the Price"

But outside of that yes, very nice implementation.

Thanks Jason,

Very good feedback and very valid points.

I do agree in regards with Flash for pure images by themselves but not only for making your slide snappier but also the fact that you can make your banners look so much more professional. I have seen some amazing flash banners with amazing features that won't beat FrontPage slide but regarding the SEO friendly option this is what interests me.

Regarding your feedback on the contents, once again - very valid points, thanks for that! I will be making the changes as you suggested.

I like people with valid points! Keep them coming...lol
