Default To increase price by percentage

Hello. I am trying out new X-Cart 5 and challenging my needs. And I run out of ideas and need your help.

I have many items with a few attributes which reflect pricing. Say a product has 25-color option and unpainted finish is $10. With color painted option "Red" is $12. And I have another option for finish, like clear coating. Then, I want to increase the price by 25%, and red color with clear coating would be $15.

I was able to make attribute for color part. That was easy. But I do not have ideas to increase prices by percentage top of other attribute.

Any modules, add-on, coding ideas would be really appreciated!

First idea that popped into my head was to use variants. Then you could set the price for each combination directly. Seems like a clumsy solution though. I can tell you from experience that altering the price through attributes with custom code is tough. I've done it before and it takes a lot of editing. Mainly because X-Cart checks back with the product to get the price several times throughout the checkout process.

My advice would be to find a way to just add the price through the options without percentages. Clear coat costs $5. Color costs $2. Make the price of the clear coat cover the most expensive combination and don't worry about the minor differences.

Hi Mike. I appreciate your advices. I will forget about percentage charge, and try to find a way to add amount with options.

Hello!

You can use options with price modifiers or product variants.

The difference between the features is that X-Cart 5 tracks variants as individual stock-keeping units having their own SKUs, prices and stock levels.
This may not work if you want all the options to be treated as the same stock-keeping unit.
Options do not create multiple stock-keeping units, but you have to use price surcharges (fixed or percentage) and can't set fixed prices for different variants.
