Google should be ashamed of themselves for promulgating this change.

PS -- I just tried using my POP3 mail client to send a test email to username+idtag@domain.com, and my smtp server wouldn't allow it to be sent. I tried 3 different smtp servers, including earthlink, roadrunner and my personal smtp server on my dedicated linux box. None of them would let me send with the "+idtag". This is not a flaw of X-Cart.

My server with linux sends to +id just fine.

The + symbol is perfectly valid in an email address and always has been, it's use is not forbidden in RFC 822 <http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc822.html> thus x-cart is wrong to not allow it.

The plus sign isn't the problem, the id tag is.

My reply was to a question about why x-cart has different versions of software that they are seemingly constantly "upgrading", and "clients" complaining about problems with 4.1.x. I know there are problems with just about all software, but 4.0.19 works well for us, even with its limitations. We are in the process of "upgrading" to 4.1.x but since there is little that is the same, it is just about like starting over... if it could only be that easy . Most problems seem to occur with trying get all of the data from the 4.0.19 database into the 4.1.x format correctly and in a timely manner. Languages and images are particularly a problem.

My mail server requires the + symbol (somebody+domain.com). I would thing that somebody+idtag+domain.com would be rejected, just as somebody@idtag@domain.com probably would be.

WAIT!

somebody+something@example.com is a valid email address.

NOBODY ever said anything about
somebody+something+example.com

So get that out of your mind

Like I said, my mail server requires the + symbol so somebody+something@example.com is as invalid as something@example.com. It has to be something+example.com. The @ symbol is invalid.

Sorry I missed your point. I got it now

So with +domain.com rather than @domain.com how do you submit your email to sites for forums or similar things that check to see if the @ is used?

A pop (incoming) mail server works fine with the @ symbol (something@example.com), it is my SMTP (outgoing) mail server that requires the + symbol (something+example.com). This isn't that uncommon. You just put your "reply to" address as something@example.com.

I know this is off the original topic, but I'm pretty sure my outgoing mail server would reject something+idtag+example.com, and I know it will reject something+idtag@example.com.
