Does the email you are trying to enter have a + symbol in it?

X-Cart does not allow the modern use of the +id tag in email addresses that are in prevelent use by gmail address users.


To those who do not know what this is:
This symbol allows people to add a custom tag to their email address so they know who is selling their email address.

Example:

somebody@gmail.com

Somebody signs up at cattoy.com to buy stuff but they want to make sure the people who own cattoy.com are not selling their email list so somebody adds an identifier tag to the email address they suppy to cattoy.com

somebody+cattoy@gmail.com

This special email will go to the same email account as somebody@gmail.com with no extra work from somebody and if somebody gets mail to somebody+cattoy@gmail.com but it is from some marketing crap not affiliated with cattoy.com then somebody knows that cattoy.com sold their email list!!

Not an issue in IE but in Firefox 2.0 it is.

Is there a simple fix for the Firefox email problem that I am completely missing? Trying to go live ASAP. Thanks.

On a fresh install I log into the Admin section, but I do not see any menus/links for Products or Inventory (see attached screenshot).

Is there an option I need to have checked for those menus to be visible?

Don't get me wrong please...I love x-cart but I don't agree with this never stable version.

I have several clients and all are really disappointed with 4.1.xxx

Thats kind of like saying why doesn't Microsoft make one version of Windows and stick with it. X-cart version 4.0.19 is stable. Version 4.1.6 is still beta, and unstable. It is much closer now than it was with 4.1.1 but still has a ways to go.

You didn't say if you are using 2 or 3 column format but there are 2 more 'sections' that on my 2 column install are between 'administration' and 'your profile'. They may have been mysteriously 'dropped' if you changed formats.

I have tried installing 4.1.6 in 3 column, 2 column, and small shop but none have the Products and Inventory menus in the admin section like it used to be in 4.0.x

Yeah, and has some fundamental design flaws (I call thse bugs) that 4.1.x fixed (and will never be corrected in 4.0.x)

If you are building a new store, today, you'd be foolish to ignore 4.1.x -- the benefits and featureset far outweigh the few "bugs" that are still around.

Most of the issues some of us have had are all resolved. Few were related to actual customer experience.

This can be argued till we're all blue... you can only load it, try it, does it work? Factor in the cost and expesne of migrating from 4.0.19 to 4.1.x down line... and if you think X-Cart isn't already working on 4.2, you don't know the software business.

4.1.6 is clearly ready for production. Many, many stores are making lots of money with it every day. "Stable" or not.

"Stable" was declared on 4.0.12 - and then they released another 7 versions to fix bugs. And they probably could roll out another one. But they won't. The point is, if it works, use it.

"Modern use" ? And where in the universal email spec is this new feature? Just because google or microsoft invent new features, doesn't make it compliant. We spend too much time fixing code so that IE will look correct, whereas all w3c compliant browsers all look the same.

Google should be ashamed of themselves for promulgating this change.

PS -- I just tried using my POP3 mail client to send a test email to username+idtag@domain.com, and my smtp server wouldn't allow it to be sent. I tried 3 different smtp servers, including earthlink, roadrunner and my personal smtp server on my dedicated linux box. None of them would let me send with the "+idtag". This is not a flaw of X-Cart.
