Is there a mod/hack whereby you can give the product thumbnail an overlay in the same way as the various sale/offer mods work i.e. the ones where you see a 'sale' graphic overlaid?

It would be for ad hoc usage and not tied to a particular sale but might say 'Great Value!', 'Rare as Rocking Horse Sh*t'' or any ad hoc graphic to convey a message to the customer.

That one is a little bit basic insofar as it only does text which doesn't look great. Ironically the 'new' overlay on that product page is the kind of thing I was thinking of!

Pretty easy to do. Just build a select box on the product page, add some options with a default of none, then take action on the front side based on that selection.
