Default SKU Editing Question

Ok, I've searched the manuals and the forums and couldn't find an answer...

1) I'm trying to find where to edit the SKU numbers. I added a prefix of 500 when I setup my cart (mistake) and I'd like to remove this - but can't find where I added it.

2) Also, my auto-generated SKU numbers are HUGE - SKU50099999999999.... anybody else have this issue? If so, how did you correct this?

3) SKU numbers are pretty much worthless to me anyhow - customers referenced them when asking about items in my store in a previous installation (4.0.18 I believe) but other than that, I have no use for them. Would commenting out SKU references in the proper product template be the best way to keep this value from being displayed?

If this is an old issue, if someone could redirect me to the proper theread, it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Does anyone else get this message when they search the forum for "SKU"?

- Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

Or is it just me?

The forum doesn't handle three letter searches. You edit the sku numbers in the product detail page in the admin. Do you mean you added 500 to a template somewhere? Or in the php files or..? Yes, to hide them, just comment them out on the product detail page.

Thanks balinor, appreciated.

I updated the SKU with "500" somewhere within one of the admin panels, possibly during setup / installation. Which panel, I don't know - can't find it. But if I edit out the SKU in the appropriate template anyway, then I guess it doesn't matter.

Last question: After hiding the SKU from the product details page, is there a potential problem with SKU numbers being generated that could hurt cart performance? I can imagine SKU numbers growing and growing and growing... never being seen... could this become an issue internally with the cart? Or is this a non-issue?

Thank you once again.

It's a non-issue, don't worry about it
