Default Customised Checkout process

I changed the register & checkout sections around in the store im working on at the moment to try and make thinga a little simpler.

Instead of asking the customer to register and fill in a massive form they can just enter their main details then when they checkout they are just asked to fill in the delivery address if itd different from their own address.

I also needed to have some extra fields that were not there to start with. They were ...

additional information
delivery date
recipients name

All i did was to use some of the fields that i didnt need. they were ...

ssn (social security number)
company
fax

I removed the address as this a live store and the client dosnt want people just using the site just to check out how the cart works.

If you interested get in touch and Ill give you a demo user and pass

Hello Shan,

I like the changes made to the cart. I would like to simplify my cart. Let me know what you would charge for changes to a cart. The process would be very similar to floralscenter.com with a few minor changes.

Thanks
Cory

Something on your checkout page is making the page not secure, maybe an image on your server you're referencing?

Otherwise looks great man!

I just checked and all is fine on the checkout.

I did notice the blank signup go through and then get deleted though. I realise there was a link to the site there but also had a note saying it was live.

Its not a good thing for people to be signing up and going through live stores. Clients dont tend to like this sort of traffic.

I removed the link now

Sometimes I tell myself that I'm going to setup an automatic DoS attack to people who go through the whole checkout process (cept' a sale of course) with a referrer coming from this fourm...

Just kidding, of course

But seriously, it messes up stats and everything. It can be frustrating. I've stopped posting my x-carts because of it.

you can remove it from the signup ok and then add a link back to the register form at the checkout if they wish to use different ship to details.

I coded it so that it just added delivery details to the checkout at the point of adding cc details and a few other things. This would not normal y work though unless you have a fixed shipping amount because the shipping is based on destination (shipping) address and so needs to be worked out before checking out

Thanks once again.

I'll give it a go and set up a custom ship to form as per profile update, display current shipping address and then link back from checkout.

Wouldn't cart.php / checkout.tpl recalculate shipping if I did jumped out updated shipping details and redirected back in to step 2 of 3 of checkout ? From what I can see it looks like this is O.K.

yes it would recalc if you did it that way. The way i mentioned skipped out the going back and just added shipping ifo direct into the orders table rather then updating the users profile table.

there should be templates already set up for billing address and shipping address. you can just use those
