Just started working on a new site in 4.4. I like the skin chooser facility, but want to add my own skin to the list as this would seem to be the best strategy, rather than editing one of the default skins.

I just want to add my new skin(s) and stop the others showing in the drop down list, so the users don't screw things up.

I have scoured the database to find where this list of skin definitions is stored to no avail - it must be there somewhere - anyone know where to look.

Found it!

It's not in the database - it just looks in the skin folder - bit like the way Wordpress themes work.

You just copy one of the existing skin theme folders in the /skin directory - change the altskin.ini file to reflect whatever name you want to give it. Update screenshots and whatever else needs updating and there you go.

There is a folder of templates in the skin folder under /customer, I am assuming these override the default ones - so if you put a new home.tpl in here it should take precedence an and stop you having to edit the default files - am I right Qualiteam??

If so this will make upgrading a whole lot easier.

Your exactly right... the folders in your new template folder will need to match the same ones in the common_files folder (images, css, customer, etc.)

One thing to watch for is going to how your new css file include the image, since more are relative (../images) . You'll need to copy some of the core images from /skin/common_files/images to your /skin/newtemplate/images folder. Be sure to keep checking in firebug for missing images and copy the missing ones over as you find them... It's a bit slower but it keeps your new template folders nice and clean.

Where the heck is the Skin Chooser!?!?! I must be blind, but I can't find where you can change to a different template.....

Just installed 4.4 to try it out. Client is still on 4.2.3...

In the admin panel, goto "Settings" -> "General Settings" -> On right side click on "Appearance" and its right on top under "Select skin to use"

I have duplicated and renamed one of the folders in the skin folder, updated the .ini file with new order and name but this new folder is not automatically appearing in the skin selector on the "Settings" -> "General Settings" ->"Appearance" page.

There is more that needs to be done. Does anyone know what else is required in 4.5.4?

You don't have to copy all skin files. Only copy the skin files you want to change. It falls back to using the files in common_files if your custom skin folder doesn't have it.
