As an end user, you are right - why pay for an unencrypted module as you would still need a developer to do anything you needed the unencrypted files for - modifications, support, upgrades etc.

So when you get to that point - just find a developer who does have the unencrypted files.

None of my clients need to purchase these as I've got it covered for them.

If you don't have your own developer and you want to protect yourself and future proof your investment, send me a PM or email and we can work something out so you can share the costs.

I eventually payed the $75, it wasn't worth it.
So I have the uncrypted files, but nobody can tell me if they work on 4.7.6 and php7. The email I got said:

The current alteredCart installations running right now will continue to operate (they are not affected by alteredCart closing). However, if you plan to update to PHP 7 or upgrade to newer versions of X-Cart 4.7 the existing ioncube version of alteredCart modules will not be compatible.

It's not 100% clear but is says the encrypted module is NOT compatible.
So I buy this newer, decrypted version. I assume this says that that version IS compatible. But I'm not sure

I want to update to 4.7.6 soon and my server is php7-ready. As it runs cPanel I can choose which domain should run which php version, so that *could* wait.

I don't have a developer. I do about everything myself.

Hi,

I *think* you have two issues here and they are getting confused

A/ You already run 4.7.3 running under PHP 5.?.? which is working fine

B/ You want to upgrade to 4.7.6 running under PHP 5.?.? which I do not see a problem doing

C/ The only time you will have an issue is when you "switch" to PHP 7

Now the un-encrypted files will be needed BUT they have not been updated (I don't think?) to work with PHP 7.

You now need to work out what is not working (Deprecated) in the un-encrypted files for the mod. You will be able to make the changes to the files as they are open.

I *think* that is were we are?

This was an old post dealing with the 4.6.x branch and I messed up on the installation. There were no issues with Bill's files. It was my fault.

You need to try to contact Bill and purchase the full source code version for 4.7.x

Bill sent all his users the following email.

Dear alteredCart Community,


The offer of full source final version licenses of the alteredCart X-Cart modules will be ending this week and alteredCart will be permanently closed. There will be no further sales of alteredCart modules.


A reminder, this offer is for active sites running alteredCart modules. After feedback from customers and vendors it was requested that we offer full source licenses before completely closing our doors. You receive the full source code, and installation instructions for all X-Cart versions available for the module.

Anybody have a good lead on a replacement for Bill's On Sale module, since he's out of the game now?

I skipped the option of the unencrypted files because I didn't want to put money into something that wasn't going to get updated ever again.

But we use that module ALL the time, and now I don't want to upgrade to 4.7.6 (or higher) as I'm not certain it will continue to work.

So, suggestions?

Hi,

I haven't looked into a replacement for it yet, but may have to in the future, however I recently purchased this module and the AC one page checkout and AC payments myself - the unencrypted files - and am using OPC and payments just fine with 4.7.6. So I can tell you that at least those two work with 4.7.6. I had to make a couple changes to them, and there was a typo in payments that created an error were it was calling to a non-existent database record, but with that fixed all is fine.

Once I am done updating my website products for the new year (we do a major update each year in January with new products) I am going to try and implement the On Sale module and can let you know how that works with 4.7.6 too.

I am hopeful that a developer will take on the task in the future to update these modules for php7. I think there are a lot of people that would chip in to pay for it, myself included, so maybe it would be something for a developer to start thinking about.

can you recall the changes you made for making sure this worked OK? especially the payments section? We are encountering an issue with CC not going through properly and declining for customers but showing as unfinished in our back end (Paypal is OK).

Does anybody know if the "full source code" files that he was selling still call home and are linked to a specific domain, or are they essentially just available to modify and run on any domain (x-cart storefront)?
