I just purchased XCART 5 and having terrible load times of over 20 seconds on all pages. Even the backend admin panel is very slow. I am using RACKSPACE and they are saying everything is fine. Well, looking at GT Metrix, my time before first byte sent is over 7 secs, then over 10 secs on the GET of my domain (www.cycle-dog.com). I am very frustrated. RACKSPACE says everything is fine, XCART wants me to host with them and has not been helpful. I have loaded 15 products and now must stop, I am not sure if we will continue with XCART. I am no expert, but have found some people referencing htaccess and config.php settings. There is no where in the manual that tells what these actually do and what the best settings are. The XCART 4 manual has a lot of information on speeding up your site, but there is nothing in XCART 5. Is there a resource that I am not finding somewhere? I would think XCART would make things easy for us, there are so many other options out there.

The site is in development, they only person accessing the site is me.

Then first thing to do for you is enable "Webmaster Kit" module, tick on "Profiler enabled" option in its settings and check the problem pages. At the bottom of the page, you will see log of MySQL queries and breakdown of how many resources was taken by PHP and MySQL parts of application.

Please try to use this approach and let me know if it helps.
