Default X-Cart Pro functionalities

I was thinking on the xcart-pro functionality that each provider is the one who sets destination zones and rates for shipping. So I came up with two sets of questions:

1. We want a site that can handle multiple providers maybe a hundred providers, and no doubt xcart pro can manage that. But my concern is, each provider will have to set up destination zones and rates. Is destination and rates can be managed by the administrator? so the zones and rates will be created only once and it will reflect it to whole site regardless of which provider?

2. What happen to the orders if customer was bought multiple product with different providers. How shipping rate is manage since the shipping rates are managed by each provider? How the sales(invoice, etc) is handled from admin and per provider?

That's possible if real-time shipping calculation is enabled in X-Cart PRO. When manual shipping configuration is turned on admin can't set rates for providers goods.

Customers can purchase products from different providers at a time, and will get a statement from each provider they've bought products from. Respectively, each provider will get orders for his products only. Customers see total shipping cost for entire order.

It mean's we cannot use real time shipping if we use our local shipper which is not listed in the ff:

InterShipper
USPS
FedEx
DHL/Airborne
Canada Post
Australia Post

Ambal what if the following scenario happens: provider1 has a promo "free shipping if customer shopping cart total is $500+" and provider2 selling its product in regular price. The customer bought products from provider1 worth $600 and product from provider2 worth $300 in one transaction. What is the computation for its shipping?

If that shipper provides some online API for real-time shipping estimation you can have X-Cart integrated with that API. Or you can use manual shipping rates calculation in X-Cart PRO modified to do what you need - i.e. admin configures shipping rates, providers can't do that.

X-Cart will calculate shipping cost according to settings made by each provider. A customer won't receive free shipping for provider2's items and receive free shipping for provider1's items. If you want to see this in action - I advise you to download X-Cart PRO and try it in action!

Hi Ambal, doe's x-cart pro provide a developers manual? I am going to modify its shipping process wherein the shipping rates are centralized and manage only by admin. It is difficult for us if we are going to try a trial and error just to get where to put customizations code.

Thanks!

I fear X-Cart doesn't have developers manual. But it comes with 100% source code opened so you can use built-in modules as samples for your own customizations.

Also, there are:
1) X-Cart custom development service
2) many developers hanging out here. Try to post your request for quote at http://forum.x-cart.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23

Hello Ambal,

Regarding this topic, I have an extra question: I need for the Pro version of X-Cart to have available a categories/products filter by provider - something like this www.mysite.com/provider1/ www.mysite.com/provider2/, etc.

How can I obtain this feature?

You can set a category for each provider under his/her name and enable Clean URLs. Thus products listed in those categories will appear in the catalog as you need.

Also, you may like this mod from X-Cart Marketplace:

Hi Alex!
I have a question regarding the shipping computation of x-cart. I have two shipping method with the same courier:

ex: courier1- 1 day delivery, courier1- 2 days delivery

Both of them have different rates, I have no problem if no free shipping is involved. But when I issue a free shipping on product1 (not using special offer) and combine them with other product with the same provider it computes the weight base and free shipping is disregarded on product1. Is this correct on what x-cart principle is, free shipping is disregarded if you combine them to regular products?

Looks like you have option
"List of shipping methods available for an order that contains (in addition to products with non-free shipping) some products with free shipping should be defined based on the weight of the entire order (weight of the products with free shipping included)."
enabled at "Admin back-end -> General settings -> Shipping"
