Default PriceSlider - filter categories by price range

Hi all,

I'd like to introduce our new X-Cart module - we think it will add to many stores' buying experience in a new, fantastic way.

PriceSlider
is a small, fast mod that provides an extra feature for your category pages: a draggable slider shows the number of products available between two prices.

Features include:
  • Compatible with X-Cart 4.1 and 4.2
  • Instant feedback - the number of products available update instantly, no waiting for page refreshes or AJAX requests
  • Customisable - decide the minimum and maximum prices, as well as the interval between drag points (e.g. $5, $10, $15...)
  • Fully skinnable - the slider graphics can be changed using CSS
See PriceSlider in action here: link

PriceSlider
is available now for just $9.99, and has been tested on all major browsers. Find out more and purchase here.

Hi John,

Nice mod ...
Personnaly I think it would be more interesting that if mod worked the other way around:
from 1000$ to 1$ (price decrease).
Best regards,

Gijs

Hi Gijs, thanks for the feedback.

That's an interesting idea: it's always seemed 'natural' that the left-hand side represents the lower end of the scale while the right-hand side represents the higher end. Is this a common idea? I've never seen it before.

I have always seen it low on the left, high on the right - think it would screw people up if it was the other way around.

What I mean by that is the following (lets say you have 10 items):

a) From small to big: it shows product from 0 to 1000 $
So when you're on 1$ dollar it will show all 10 items
When you're on, let's say 100 $, il will show the 3 items which are more expensive then 100 $

b) From big down to small:
It will show the items which are cheaper then 100 $.
And that's the point I find interesting.

Best regards,

Gijs

That's a good point - and that's why there are two 'grabbers' - one on each side, so to see only lower-priced items, you just pull the right grabber over to the left.

I noticed while in a category like books, where there are no products listed, the slider indicates there are no products in this price category.
I think you should disable the mod when there are no product listings. I find it distracting to see the slider when there are no products.. just my 20 cents...

Didn't notice that at first, but this is exactly what I meant!

Great mod!

Many thanks for the great feedback Gijs!

And thanks also to Rene - you're right, there's no reason why PriceSlider should appear if there are no products within that page - so the template file has been modified to take this into account and can be seen at the demo site.

Installed this on behalf of a client, based on v4.1.8

It lists all the products in the price range, instead of just the products in the price range AND particular category.

{$cat} is not getting passed to search.php - Any ideas why?
