Anyone ever use Point of Sale / Phone Ordering X-cart Addon?

The one by BCS Engineering. Has anyone tried it? Does it work well? The demo is down and I'd love to know if anyone's had a good experience with the add-on.

I use it on a daily basis across several businesses and sites, both for myself and my clients. It's to be quite frank, indispensible to us now. We take orders over the phone and my staff use it to place phone orders every day.

It's a little gem of a product and super fast.

Thanks for your reply - I was looking for something to use as an actual POS though, with a cash drawer and receipt printer, not just for phone orders. The makers of this mod don't know if it could function as a true POS, which I guess isn't a good sign.

I tried the demo and it seems pretty limited. Anyone else test this one out?

We love the pos system! It works great for us for phone orders, but I don't know if it would work as a pos for a store. You can set cash payment methods, but if you're looking to scan items and whatnot, I think you'll have to look elsewhere.

You can scan items with it. Just set your barcode scanner to send a "return" after the scan and it will pick the product out for you provided you have the barcode information in an extra field for searching.

Receipt printers it may work with. Just depends on the printer. Cash drawers are the same. We made it flexible enough to be possible to use as a POS system for those not needing an elaborate system and needing something directly connected to X-cart.

Thanks for replying. The person I spoke to via email said that they didn't think it would work with either of those things. How would I find out if a printer and cash drawer would work with it? Is it possible to make modifications to the mod to get it to work with them? And to calculate change and do a few other basic POS things? I'd be willing to pay BCSE or someone else to customize it if that's the case.

I use it very often and is very helpful if you take phone orders.
The problem is you can't process credicards directly, I have to charge credicard manually using virtual terminal. At least the version I have is not capable.

Saul,

This would depend on what CC processor you use and if they allow this. If they do not, then we do not have it integrated or no one has requested it to be integrated. With over 100+ cc processors for X-cart, we have integrated the ones requested and the ones that do allow CC processing by the store owner on the customer's behalf through their payment gateway.

Yes it would likely be possible. We basically couldn't do this "in general" as it would really depend on the hardware hooked up to the PC. With typical POS systems, it comes with the software and the hardware. In our case, we aren't providing the hardware, so it's very hard to program generically for the variety of hardware out there to hook up to the PC. But we should be able to customize it to hook up to a cash drawer and receipt printer. Just email us back and let whomever is assigned to your ticket know I said we could customize this and it will get sent to the right place.
