Default Wordpress / phpBB site - will this work?

I have a site that I created which started out as a simple phpBB forum, then added Wordpress as a CMS -- and some simple pages with products for sale. The 'cart' right now is a very simple hand-off to PayPal.

I want to integrate a real shopping cart and my research keeps bringing me to x-cart as getting good reviews and nice set of functionality.

I'm fairly well-skilled at writing PHP, HTML, CSS, SQL, etc. I was able to seamlessly integrate WordPress and phpBB on my site. So -- is it reasonably easy to integrate x-cart into this type of site?

For example, I'd want to have WordPress continue to generate pages -- but have x-cart content "living" inside those pages.

So, is there a set of function calls I can make to x-cart to generate the content I need from within my WordPress pages -- or is the base requirement for an x-cart site that x-cart is driving overall page generation?

I'm hoping for something like this:

PHP Code:
{wordpress header}
{wordpress content loop}
<?php xcart_product_grid("stuffed animals"); ?>
{wordpress footer}

Once the grid of product choices is shown, if the user clicks on one product listing, then I suppose I'm in x-cart page generation -- and can hopefully call my wordpress header and footer from there, too?

Any insight on this would be very appreciated...

Why don't you just design X- Cart to look like your Wordpress site? I use 2 wordpress installations and X-Cart for the Shopping Cart. You can also use X-Cart for add to cart buttons on an existing website which I do as well.

I can't anser your question though. I wouldn't think that is possible.

Ok I could do as you suggest. I like having full control over my page layout though. For example on my current product pages I do things like:

- show a YouTube video in a jquery light box
- show product images in a slide show, again using jquery
- show a free shipping and 'in stock' green check marks, based on the product attributes or inventory
- show the regular price with a strike-through, and a sale price

Etc.

Does x-cart let me get my hands on the product page templates to modify them, call my own code if I want to, etc. ? Or is x-cart a simple 'set up and run' system with little control over page level details?

Yes you can modify them anyway you want, but you could also develop your page in wordpress then simply add the code to an add to cart button if you want the page on wordpress.
