Question Question about customization and XCart itself

Good morning everyone!

I want to know what you think about the customization of XCart?

Also I wanted to know, XCart way of customization, it's only by Admin.php panel? or you can edit, create new php in order to create a new page with your own css?

The Modules are used only for light changes? or a Module can be your whole web pages?

Anyone has a good base documentation for developments that are strating in this framework? Because till now the doc I've seen was not so helpful, because it was or outdated or I followed every single step for it but did not see the outcome.

I want to clear this thoughts 'cuse my intention is to support XCart, but if this is what I'm stepping in, is hard to be convince is the framework that I'm looking for.

P.S: I don't have too much experience with OOP. For this framework to be useful should I have a big knowledge of OOP?

Thank you for everyone stopping by and answering my questions!

I appreciate the help! ^-^

From a module you can change almost every bit of X-Cart 5. It can be a simple tweak to CSS, or a complex modification to the logic and behavior.

The documentation for developers is located there:
http://devs.x-cart.com/

X-Cart 5 is OOP, but it should not be a problem I think.

Sry Alex to bother you once more,

but I've been doing this tutorial from devs blog

http://devs.x-cart.com/en/basics/creating_new_page.html

to see how to create my own page and when I finish and test it... Nothing happens (My "Hello World!" doesn't appear)

You know why is this?

I see there is "5.2.x / 5.3.x" switch on the page, but for some reasons it isn't working. I've notified the XC5 dev team about this problem.

My guess is that you used ".tpl" extension instead of ".twig". Since 5.3.x version X-Cart uses the new Twig template engine.

Try to rename your .tpl files to .twig and change the path to the files in PHP scripts (the getDefaultTemplate() method). Does this help?

Hi Alex!

Okey good to know I discover a bug! hahaha x)...
About .tpl or .twig I did it with .twig ... What would be the correct path? I have this one in my getDefaultTemplate method:

"'modules/DevID/ModuleId/page/herno_custom/body.twig'" -> I have replaced devId and ModuleId for my ID I'm using.

Thank you for the help!

The path looks OK to me. Just make sure that the file is actually placed into that directory.

Also, try to enable the developer mode in the etc/config.php file and pack your custom module into a single archive file. Does the structure of that file matches custom files that you added? Or does it miss some file that should be there?
