changes only show in webmaster mode

Default changes only show in webmaster mode
When I make a change such as label change or add an image for a category, they show like they should only in webmaster mode. As soon as I turn it off all changes are gone.
I'm using 5.2.10
Hopefully want to sell the company on going with Xcart and want to show them a look but it's no cooperating.
