Hi everyone,

I am considering purchasing Altered Cart's "Buy Together", but I have a question. In particular, how does the "Customers Also Bought feature" behave?

1.) What happens if an item has never been purchased before? Will it not show any "also bought" products?
2.) What happens if you have it set to 5 "also bought" products, but only 2 products have ever been purchased with the particular item? Will there be 3 blank spaces or will it show 3 random products?
3.) Does the calculation slow down the site at all if you have a large number of products? (~12,000)

Unless it recently changed on my site it was:

1. No product would show.
2. I will only show 2 products centered on the page.
3. No, I see no slow down a all.

Thanks for the response.

So I take it this would NOT be a good feature to use for a brand new site? (Considering no sales have been made yet, all of the products would show blanks)


If you do not mind me asking, how many products does your site have?

Actually I would highly recommend it if it were available for 4.3 but it doesn't seem to be yet. I don't really use the "But Together" feature any more that much but I like the "Recently Viewed Items" feature a lot. Plus the "Customer Also Bought" will fill in as items are purchased.

I have had up to 500 items on my site but I am currently down in the 300's right now.

Thanks again, one more question if you don't mind. Smart search requires an indexing / caching of all of your products. Does it seem like it is a similar process for Buy Together?

No, Buy Together is completely automatic. Just install it and it will work.

Hello Again,


I have purchased "Buy Together" and I have a question about the way it functions. Hopefully, some one could verify it for me so I do not have to bother Bill (and pay a support ticket).


I currently have the global discount set to 10% when some one buys two items together. This seems to work as intended; however, if I go into an individual product and set a different discount, nothing seems to happen.

If you are not sure what area I mean, it says this " % Off -- (Global discount is set at 10% Off)
This will override the global discount for the Test Product 1 product only. Other products added as buy together combinations will use the global discount (or their own custom discount)."


When I type in my new discount and then hit enter or click save, nothing stays in the box and it does not appear to apply on the front end of my store. Am I doing something wrong?
