Hi Jake,

Are you raising this question as a merchant or as a web developer? Or from another perspective perhaps?

Generally, there are lots of complaints about Magento performance and about how hard it is to customize it.

Now, after our latest release (the fastest X-Cart version ever), Magento falls even more far behind in terms of speed. And that is crucial for store visitors in this day and age, isn't it? Not to mention that it is cheaper for a merchant to host X-Cart as it is not that resource hungry as compared to Magento.

By the way, the subject has been already discussed in the following forum thread: http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=59873 . You might want to read it, too.

System Requirements for Magento are much higher compared with X-Cart

Elaine is right in terms of customising it - It's a pain (When I last looked at it a couple of years back).

1) Smarty makes the difference. I hate seeing php in html files.

2) X-Cart has a great community. This Forum is a Golden Mine. Over the years some members provided good support and custom work.

3) X-Cart is a mature product with a lot of modules, add-on, skins. There is a thread special for this (made by me). X-Cart has nice modules you won't find in other carts.

4) Magento Community version was not updated as fast as it was in the past. The new Master wants it more as a payment service. Anyway, Magento has tons of modules, skins. Because it is free, it has millions of fans over the world.

Magento is not bad, I like it. There is another cart I like too. I took from them all the nice things I thought they could help X-Cart users. You can find them in ideas.x-cart.com.

It is very hard to make a comparison. As I said take the trial and play with it. It is like an ice cream, you could like chocolate or caramel or any other flavor.

I uploaded it and tried it out. Magento is slow to load, XCart really flies, especially this 4.6 version

No it isn't. X-Cart, X-Men, ...

Soon we will compare X-Cart with Darth Vader.
