Default New X-Cart Setup DVD Sales

Hello I'm a Newb, (and proud to have embraced x-cart┘)

Please help us as we try to establish our on line commerce web site, please see our needs listed below.

We sell adult dvd's exclusively on eBay. We do not stream video, we do not even offer trailers┘ all of our product listings consist of 1 static image and the associated description. Our move titles come from respected industry Studios such as: Wicked , Adam & Eve, Combat Zone, Digital Playground to name a few. The time has come for us to expand our offerings and we're considering GoDaddy for their "VPS" web hosting model. Also, we'll have at launch over 6000 - 8000 product listings and need to know how much horsepower to buy up front from our host provider. RAM, CPU, BANDWIDTH. So much gripes on the 'net about x-cart off loading work onto SQL Server that I'm afraid of being stiffed by the Host Provider on a solution that won't accommodate our basic needs.

A list of Must Haves:

Thinking of GoDaddy Provider to Host VPS Server X-Cart

We categorize our offerings by a) Studios and b) Genres

We need cross promotions, up promotions, and featured items capacity on all web pages, preferably based on visitor's search criteria.

Facebook and eBay "Theme uniformity". We'd like to have some consistent branding along the lines, so a well established "Look and feel" across all three market places would be great, aesthetically speaking. Any recommended eBay expert that can be hired, can apply.

2. eBay Integration

Need to list on eBay our web hosted items. Which is best: Auction Manager SaftyNet or MagneticOne eBay Export, inventory control is critical for cross marketing, on-the-fly adjusting stock quantities availability during depletion across markets, i.e., eBay, web or FaceBook sales

3. Facebook / Twitter/ Google+ Presence

We need Facebook/Twitter Google+ presence for our product offerings. So chances are we'll tag on f-Commerce

Please advise if there is anything listed here that will not work for us.

Sorry for such lengthy reading┘ but I'm a noobster.

Regards,

STARCASINO

Hosts like Godaddy, 1&1 and alike are not good although with VPS on GoDaddy you will ok. Consider hosts found here - http://marketplace.x-cart.com/ - same pages you can find ebay integration mod

Steve,

Thanks for the tip! However, bear in mind that I would need a host that does not have an issue with my particular sales type: Adult DVD Media.

You can check with the XC recommended hosts if they accept such contents to be hosted on their servers. I am just pointing out that XC recommended hosts are way better than GoDaddy, although with GoDaddy dedicated or VPS machine you can tweek it to serve you better. Since you are still looking and not set on something it's worth asking them and what they can do for you.

Here's another question:

I'd like to rename the two default names used in my x-cart theme┘ "Categories" and "Manufacturers" I am using the built in theme (books_and_magazines)

1. categories --> to Book Genres

2. manufacturers --> to Book Authors

Does it require a lot of page editing or is there a quick fast universal approach to this?

Thanks

These are language variables so you can name it whatever you want from admin languages. You may want to start from here - http://help.x-cart.com/index.php?title=X-Cart:User_manual_contents

Really, Language Variables? Perhaps I didn't explain that right... I'm referring to the two "headings" on the left hand side of my web site, the top says: Categories, and below towards the bottom, "Manufactures" they are in the built in theme (books_and_magazines)

I'd like to change those words to read instead of,

Categories ----> to read: Book Genres

Manufacturers ----> to read: Book Authors

Thanks

Yes they are called language variables.

lbl_categories which has a value of "Categories"
lbl_manufacturers which has a value of "Manufacturers"

You can change the value to whatever you want
lbl_categories -> "Blah blah blah"

and that will show everywhere "lbl_categoires" is being used
